In order to improve the robustness of multicast source tree as well as keep its efficiency in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks, we present a new multicast protocol, termed Dynamic Source Tree-based Multicast Routing (DSTMR). The keystone of DSTMR is to provide dynamic maintenance for multicast source tree and set up its protective layer during the course of creating multicast source tree. The protective layer is established in a limited range for controlling overhead and adjusted dynamically with source tree's change. On the other hand, although multicast source tree has possessed protective layer, data packet is still forwarded along with the source tree. So this approach can hold high transmission efficiency and increase the robustness simultaneously compared with the pure source tree-based schemes.
