This paper presents a new code distribution protocol based on parallel diffusion mechanism, PDM. It is targeted to address the problem of relatively low efficiency and high energy consumption in over-the-air re-programming (OTAP) for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In PDM, the forwarding nodes are determined by the distances between adjacent nodes, and the transmission power can be adjusted dynamically. It achieves that a number of adjacent nodes in a network transmit codes in different powers simultaneously. Simulation results demonstrate that PDM can improve the efficiency of OTAP in WSNs, and make the energy consumption in network not only lower but more balanced. With the increasing in the number of nodes and node spacing, optimizing is obvious.
