Measuring and comparing the harm of the computer virus is an important part of computer security. But there are few researches on the subject. The paper, firstly, defines the harm of the computer virus, proposes four principles for harm classification and then constructs the hierarch structure for the harms. Then applying the theory of Analytic Hierarchy Process, the paper presents pairwise comparison matrixes and the corresponding eigenvectors. After the evaluation process, the paper gets the weight for each harm index of the virus. Finally, the paper calculates and compares the harms of some popular viruses in recent years. The calculation results are basically proportion to the statistical data. Method in this paper provides a strong reference for analysis and defense of the computer viruses.
