Abstract

Real-time voice communication is a critical application for MANETs which are characterized by peer-to-peer network structure, dynamic network topology, limited wireless bandwidth, low-power mobile terminals, high error rates, and the broadcast nature of wireless communications. The advent development in the field of MANETs has necessitated exploring the capacity for different services in the present scenario. Along with effective routing protocols suitable speech coding techniques are needed to ensure quality voice communication in MANETs. The focus of study being easily accessible as regards to the high bit-rate channels & networks; however, the main objective for low bit-rate coding is to minimize the transmission costs and to meet the demand to transmit over channels of limited capacity. Various forms of coding techniques have been used to design efficient coding algorithm that can achieve substantially more compression so as to fit to the requirement. The work suggested here are the designing algorithms followed by proper optimization for a sub-band speech coding. Efficient speech coding is needed to meet the demands of the rapidly increasing the technology of mobile ad hoc networks.
