Abstract

An important issue in sensor network is power scarcity, driven in part by battery size and weight limitations. Mechanisms that optimize sensor energy utilization have a great influence on prolonging the network life time. The performance of wireless sensor nodes in terms of life time can be achieved by minimizing the energy consumption for communication and balancing the energy load among all nodes. The major important role is performed by proper election of cluster heads. In this paper we address the Modified algorithm for EEHCA in terms of election of cluster heads which are elected based upon the residual energy of the nodes in the clusters. The fault-tolerance performance is improved by more than one backup cluster head in the cluster. After the data aggregation is completed at the cluster head within the cluster. The aggregated data is transmitted to the sink in multi hop mode. Hierarchical mechanisms (especially clustering algorithms) are helpful to reduce data latency and increase network scalability. In this study we propose and the evaluate performance of this Modified EEHCA using the Matlab. The simulation results have shown the better performance than the LEACH, HEED and EEHCA in terms of network life time.
