Abstract

A database system must be easily accessible both to skilled and unexperienced users in order to allow them to obtain information at varying levels of detail according to purpose. Some of the problems to be faced by the user are: to navigate within the database; to formulate a syntactically correct query; and to retrieve the required information. The features of automatic inference together with a man-machine visual interface have been exploited in the design and implementation of X-VIQU which attempts to solve the above problems.
