Abstract

With the rapid development of network application, the use of media streaming system became more and more popular, greatly enhancing the user experience. But as the number of internet users is increasing sharply, the traditional Client-Server (C/S) architecture cannot afford so many clients (end-users), and the network scalability was so poor. The disadvantages of this C/S architecture became apparent. Some researchers and institutes have made great effort to design new application systems, such as Peer-to-Peer or CDN system, PPLive [4] and TrustStream [2], each having its set of advantages and disadvantages. This paper proposed a hybrid CDN-P2P system for Video-on-Demand system, and this can combine both the set of advantage of CDN and Peer-to-Peer system, as the reliability and quality control of CDN and the inherent scalability of a P2P system.
