Abstract

This paper discusses availability computation procedures of a mechatronic system under the uncertainties that involve randomness as well as fuzziness. A four state Markov model is considered and 10 cases are modelled that take different nature of failure and repair rates. As in real life, sometimes statistical data is available about failure and repair rates, but in cases where such data is scarce or not available, one have to rely on subjective information or judgment provided by the expert. So this issue where some data is probabilistic and some is of fuzzy nature is stressed and attempted to be resolved in this paper. Various upcoming techniques such as vertex method, hybrid approach (considering probabilistic as well as fuzzy) and single value fuzzy simulation are used to arrive at availability value.
