Because of rapid change of Internet software technology over the past decade, a number of software professionals have been concerned with component-based development methodologies. However, it is difficult to find out a systematic technique for the selection of COTS component in a special attention to Internet from consumers' viewpoints. Up to date, the evaluation of the component quality has been performed on the basis of software metrics. This paper presents a selection process of COTS component on the basis of the quality by using MCDM technique. The quality criteria of component are classified into functionality, efficiency and usability in accordance with ISO/IEC 9126. This paper shows that the proposed selection process can be applicable for the selection of COTS component in a special attention to Internet such as an EJB component. The authors believe that the results of this paper can be widely used for the selection of COTS components from consumers' viewpoints.
