Abstract

The top-down collaborative assembly design process of a product is highly concurrent and tightly coupled. Rational task planning significantly affects cycle time and efficiency of the product design. Task grouping is one of the key issues of task planning and it is discussed for top-down collaborative assembly design. An improved genetic algorithm (GA) for the task grouping is developed according to two principles: (1) the workload should be equilibrium among the design teams; (2) the tasks with high coupling relationships should be grouped into the same task group. As a case study, top-down collaborative assembly design of the shaper is demonstrated and the result illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
