Abstract

I set out to discover whether function points (FP) would be useful on an Extreme Programming (XP) project. I wanted to know if using function points would produce a more accurate schedule, would be a fair predictor of the iteration's ending velocity, or would be good for predicting how long it would take to implement a story. We tried function points on an XP project and found the process useful but the numbers not. After a little background on using function points I summarize statistical analysis results on the project metrics and give suggestions for practitioners as well as researchers interested this topic.
