The paper presents concepts and the practical implementation of the vision processing system for transformation of visual information, as seen by a computer, into specific sound sensations. Such a system can be used to help partially sighted and vision impaired persons to navigate and move safely, avoiding collisions with surrounding objects. In the paper we discuss also advantages and limitations of the proposed system. The special attention was also devoted to a choice of the stereo processing algorithm. Finally, software structure and experimental results are presented.
