Abstract

This paper gives an overview of dependabiUty issues of the 12 years in several business units of Philips. Main experiences stem from the development of systems in the telecommunications, consumer electronics and medical imaging domain. Several ways of dealing with these dependability issues and the best practices encountered are reported. The main focus is on architectural concepts and patterns that help to solve dependability issues in systems. Both the solution and the problem sides of dependability are explained by means of examples.
