Abstract

In this paper we propose a software architecture enabling a user-centric virtual device which is a composition of partial functions of surrounding devices. Increasingly, new information appliances and mobile personal devices are being equippedwith many primitive functions, such as network connectivity, small display, advanced user interface, etc. However, constraints like small screen and tiny keypad impose usage limitations for a user. We focus on the possibility and flexibility of individual functions' unification and separation to create a new user friendly environment with personal and public devices. A software architecture is designed and implemented to show the validation of our proposal.
