These days, ongoing research towards interactivity to break the persevering batch processing paradigm in grid computing can be seen. Batch processing means: submit a job to a queue, process it and, only when the job is finished, analyse the results. By extending grid middleware through an interactive jobmanager, a novel approach to support applications which require interactive connections is provided, allowing event based processing of dynamic data created while a grid job is running. This allows users to utilise the grid for interactive applications much in the same way as on standard workstations and opens a series of new possibilities for next generation grid software.
