Abstract

Grid system is inclined to support resource sharing for mixed types of workloads nowadays to improve the whole user utility, which requires an effective allocation method that not only each workload user can have desirable resources to satisfy its performance requirement from the view of user, but also can avoid shortage or waste of resources from the view of system. Currently, most resource allocation methods adopt economic/market models based on price policy that have two sides of deficiency, one is, price can only reflect supply and demand of one type of resource, and other is, competition among users is calculated but cooperation among users is ignored. We propose a resource allocation method constrained by a configured consumer sharing policy tree which can reflect not only competition but also cooperation relationship among users, and the ownership relationship between users and resources is also involved. The proposed allocation method that can support dynamic resource achievement of mixed types of workloads, such as batch workload, service workload etc., so that the application field of grid system is extended and the user utility of whole system is improved.
