In this paper we investigate the possibility of compiling off-line the chains of lexical signs in order to improve on some known limitations of Head-Driven generation with constraint-based grammars. The method allows the detection of problematic constructions off-line and obtains substantial performance improvements over standard head-driven algorithms.
