Current geographic information systems (GIS) lack intelligent analytical methods. Therefore, this article offers the results of creative research: (1) Suggestions on a research structure for association rule mining based on GIS. (2) A search for the distribution of disadvantaged population groups in society using the Taiwan census 2000 data. (3) A more reasonable approach which is suitable for the use of data mining with GIS.
