According to the requirement of providing semantically and personalized resource searching service to users in e-Learning systems and the problem of presenting the semantic relationships of users' query and searching results in traditional query expansion approaches, this paper discusses the representation and the construction of a semantic user model which represents individual user's interests by semantic mining from user's resource searching process, and the approach to personalized query expansion based on the user model. Some experiments are carried out to testify the effectiveness of our approach in providing personalized service and conveying the latent semantic requirement of the user in our e-Learning system. And the results of the experiments indicate that the approach is helpful.
