Abstract

Core point is an essential feature of fingerprint, which is very important in fingerprint matching and fingerprint classification. This paper proposes a novel fingerprint core point extraction method based on genetic algorithms. First the core point and its orientation is defined. Then the orientation field information is computed and the core point candidate region is determined. After the corresponding fitness function is devised, genetic algorithms are used to locate the position of core point and compute its orientation in a fast way. Experimental results show that the proposed method can extract core point and its orientation efficiently.
