The popularity of devices which are able to capture multimedia files such as cell phones and digital cameras has produced a huge amount of files: audios, images and videos. The biggest part of this material is being published on the Internet all the time. This brings a big opportunity and challenge to current information retrieval tools (Search Engines). Therefore, very important Search Engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo, and Ask) offer functionalities to retrieve multimedia files. However, they fail for not providing specific solutions for multimedia information retrieval such as better Media annotations and query specific filters. This paper tries to fill this gap presenting the multimedia annotation and ranking solutions developed and integrated in the MuSE (multimedia search engine). MuSE is specialized in the location, storage, and retrieval of audios, images, and videos.
