Abstract

In this paper, new, simple, and exact closed-form expressions for the envelope-phase joint distribution of the α -η -µ and α -λ -µ (or α -? -µ format 2) fading models are presented under a unified approach, since the latter model can be obtained from the α -η -µ by a rotation of the axes. The marginal distribution of the phase is also derived in closed form and studied in depth for each model. The analytical results are general and after suitable simplifications they specialize into the respective results of the models included in the α -η -µ and α -λ -µ distributions (i.e., the α -µ', η - µ, λ - µ, Nakagami-m, Hoyt, and Rayleigh distributions) for which the corresponding solutions are known. Finally, a sample of numerical results, obtained by the Monte Carlo simulation, is presented in order to validate the formulations developed in this paper.
