Abstract

Cellular telecommunications systems have experienced significant developments in recent years and there has been a very large increase in the demand of these systems. Hence there is a need to more effectively allocate the scarce resources to users to ensure adequate quality for the various services provided. In this paper, we investigate the performance of dynamic channel assignment in multihop cellular networks with the effect of mobile density, transmission range and channel availability. Two relay station selection algorithms are studied. It is found that the overall call blocking due to lack of relay stations and lack of transmission range is significant. Hence, we have introduced a new relay station selection algorithm to tackle these issues.
