Abstract

QoS provisioning is an important issue for deploying broadband wireless access networks with real-time and nonrealtime traffic integration. Opportunistic MAC (OMAC) protocol combines cross-layer design and opportunistic scheduling scheme to achieve high utilization while providing QoS supports to various applications. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer MAC protocol and scheduling framework with corresponding opportunistic scheduling algorithm and adaptive power control scheme (APC) to provide QoS supports to heterogeneous traffics in WiMAX point-to-multipoint (PMP) systems. Extensive simulation experiments have been carried out to evaluate the performance of our proposal. The simulation results show that our proposed solution can improve the performance of the WiMAX PMP systems in terms of packet delay, throughput and packet loss rate.
