Abstract

WiMAX is the emerging BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) technology of next generation because of its mobility, coverage and high transmission speed. Therefore, many diversified network applications and services can be applied further for tbe prevalence of nomadic clients. In this paper, we introduce a new network deployment of WiMAX to effectively provide high-quality video streaming of live news reporting (i.e. LNR) for TV stations in Taiwan, Both services of WiTV (IPTV over WiMAX) and e-SNG (WiMAX News Gathering) are provided for users and reporters respectively in proposed WiMAX deployment. Besides, to effectively provide LNR service, this island-wide WiMAX network deployment with access range of more than 350Km applies not only the relay of digital microwave links with end-to-end distance reaching to 70Km, but also the port-based VLANs to differentiate services to guarantee quality of service for LNR without interference from other irrelevant traffics. On the test-bed of proposed WiMAX deployment, the performance results from experiments on H.164/SD video streaming demonstrate cost-effectiveness and feasibility of LNR for TV stations.
