In this report we investigate a number of popular programming languages, when used for scientific computation or computational mathematics. The main aim is to investigate the XSC-philosophy that has been launched in the last few years and has resulted in a number of XSC-extensions of existing programming languages. We also focus on details of the IEEE standard which, although a standard, is never followed completely.
