Although creating an initial web site can be relatively easy, maintaining a web site and keeping its content up to date can be a challenge. Smaller organizations do not always have the resources to support dedicated web designers and authors, therefore these groups must find other strategies for keeping their web presence up to date. This paper describes an approach being taken at the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science to maintain a departmental personnel list and telephone directory. The system is highly automated and spreads the maintenance tasks across the entire organization staff. The paper describes the architecture of the resulting system and discusses related security and implementation issues. An unusual model for maintaining quality control of web content is also presented.
