Abstract

The paper contains an introduction about pervasive communications and networking and a focus about two application environments wbere wireless pervasive networks will be essential in future: information and communication tecbnology (ICT) for emergency operations; and communication infrastructure for future logistics and secure transportation. Developing wireless pervasive networking for these environments imply the introduction of innovative solutions concerning: architectures, quality of service, mobility and security management, protocols, resource anocation, vertical bandover, and delay tolerant networking. All these issues are discussed in the paper as wen as the features of future interworking devices, caned Interconnection Gateways, wbich may represent a suitable solution for efficient pervasive networking.
