Abstract

The performance of an oversampled multiband wideband digital receiver is presented in this paper. Unlike previous works that assume a single channel receiver and a conventional analog-to-digital converter (ADC), where the quantization error is modeled as an additive uniform random noise, this paper includes the effects of an oversampled sigma-delta (Σ-Δ) ADC with noise shaping and an automatic gain controller (AGC) when multiple channels with high frequencies are received by one antenna at the same time. Second order Σ-Δ ADC is our point of interest and an approach to determine the ADC resolution is proposed in this paper by evaluating the signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) degradation in each channel due to the ADC and the AGC in the wideband receiver. Numerical results are provided for different ADC resolution with different AGC gain for a second order Σ-Δ ADC, and the results are compared to a lower level Σ-Δ ADC. The results can help in the design of a multiband wideband transceiver.
