Abstract

Anaglyphic stereoscopy perception is a low cost method for 3D video reproduction, however, the coding of stereoscopic video with standard techniques, causes data loss. These losses hinder the perception of depth in the encoded videos. This paper presents an analysis of how the DCT and DWT transforms (including the quantization processes) affect the anaglyphic perception. This analysis used objective and subjective measures of quality by following standardized criteria. The results indicated that there is a threshold so that the differences between RGB color channels from the losses occurred in the coding do not interfere in the depth perception. Furthermore, the results show that the DWT is better suited for this type of video encoding.
