Abstract

In this paper, adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and repetition coding are considered as means to improve the link performance of Mobile WiMAX systems. The system evaluation is done starting from the applications error requirements in the attempt to achieve an optimum utilization of the available resources based on the variable channel conditions, without degrading too much the overall performance. The results target a multipath fading environment, and are expressed in terms of the total achievable link throughput and operating range; the adaptive modulation switching points are identified also.
