Abstract

Wavelet techniques possess many desirable properties, some of which are useful in economics and finance, but many of which are not. In this paper we use wavelets to reveal the different cycles that are hidden by the data. So, we consider some of the advantages and drawbacks of this time series multiresolution analysis technique for the purpose of obtaining simultaneous time and frequency information in determining the periodicity and the modelling of the water consumption in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), energy and electricity consumption in Spain.
