Abstract

FemtoCells' deployment presents a major challenge. In fact, these femto-base stations are often seen as hostile interferers by macroCells. Therefore, the optimization of the radio resource allocation to femtoCells is essential to decrease the interference in the network and provide a better QoS for both femtoCell and macroCell users. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic frequency assignment scheme for femtoCells in OFDMA networks. This scheme is based on assigning the "quietest" channels to femtoCells according to the received power level. Hence, femtoCells can share the radio resources with macroCells without introducing harmful interference nor condemning any particular channels. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our frequency assignment scheme. The average achievable throughput of both macroCell and femtoCell users is increased when compared to that obtained under a common assignment scheme.
