Abstract

Clinical documentation pose an interesting challenge to the Information Retrieval community, as it contains a large amount of knowledge and experience documented in both free text and structured information. In this position paper, we discuss the use of semantic annotations for this type of data, such as certainty and pain levels, and the potentials for exploiting these in information access settings such as for hypothesis generation and adverse event identification.
