In our rapidly changing world, information and communication technologies have been influential in the development of education. Both teaching and learning can benefit from new IT-based applications that save time and cost and provide practical solutions for teachers and students. This article introduces a prototype for a video search system called Video PowerSearcher. The system provides the capabilities of searching inside video lectures using text-based search queries. Video PowerSearcher separates audio from video contents and performs preprocessing activities to identify indexing features for the video which can be utilized at a later stage for search operations. Experiments were conducted on various lecture videos using Video PowerSearcher to demonstrate desirable features for e-learning systems such as simplicity, speed, and accuracy.
