Abstract

In this paper, we present the view that classified Wireless LANs (WLANs) need special handling when it comes to simulation and analyses. Even though classified environment uses open standards, almost exclusively IEEE 802.11, the fact that an array of requirements have to be met according to the DoD policy documents makes them a non-standard network type, thus making the 'regular' simulation and analysis models and libraries essentially useless. We outline this problem in detail and propose that (analysis and) simulation models for classified WLANs should be designed on a per policy based.
