Abstract

Peer-to-peer linkage compromises a capable approach for internet-based media streaming. Multimedia distribution across internet has become very common. In this work BitTorent (BT) protocol along with its components is described. So far there have been several studies that extend the BT model for Video-On-Demand (VOD) streaming. BT Piece Selection policy which is Rarest-First-Policy (RFP) chooses files based on their rareness. RFP is powerful for downloading but not for streaming. In this work RFP is modified based on the algorithm introduced in BiToS. Ultimately a hybrid P2P system is created where a media server is added to the network. In the proposed model Clients stream from the media server as well as from nodes throughout the P2P network.
