Abstract

An enhanced system engineering model is described which includes features such as: • Clean separation of the roles of system acquisition, system development and component development through a layered approach; • Indefinite recursion of a single project into sub-projects; • Distinct lifecycles for sub-projects; • Management of risk and commercial factors within the lifecycle. The authors believe that all of these features - and more - actually represent what the best engineers do (or at least what they attempt to do).
