This paper presents a new mathematical analysis for the evaluation of the average signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in the presence of carrier frequency offset (CFO). CFO destroys the orthogonality between different subcarriers giving rise to inter-carrier interference (ICI). The SINR of wireless OFDM in the presence of CFO and frequency-selective fading becomes a ratio of correlated random variables, and the exact evaluation of its average by using direct methods requires a huge computational effort. In this paper, we present an indirect method that leads to a new exact simpler expression for the average SINR over Rayleigh multipath fading channels.
