Abstract

The complexity analysis on video encoder plays an important role in low power video encoding design. This paper estimates the codec computational complexity which is greatly related with the encoding power consumption. In order to control the complexity and power consumption, and at the same time guarantee the bit rate and video quality, we extend from the complexity analysis to the Rate-Distortion-Complexity (RDC) analysis on the basis of experimental results which include several modules or parameters in software-based AVS encoder. By adjusting the modules and parameters according to the analysis, the power or complexity of the encoding device can be efficiently reduced to nearly 10% with only small changes of RD cost, and power-scalable or complexity-configurable encoder can be further designed.
