Abstract

As a realization of the matched filter (MF) receiver for reception of direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) signals, the RAKE receiver is an optimal receiver in the sense that it maximizes the output SIR under the approximation that multiple access interference is additive white noise. The base-to-user link of a commercial CDMA network, however, does not generally experience white noise MAI. MAI is dominated by a small number adjacent cells that are spectrally shaped by frequency selective fading. As a result, there has been interest development of the generalized RAKE (GRAKE) as a whitened matched filter (WMF), which is the maximum SIR receiver for a signal embedded in colored noise. In this paper we consider the specific issues of GRAKE design for a satellite WCDMA network such as MUOS.
