Abstract

A novel technique for high quality audio signal coding is proposed. The technique follows Prony modelling of the audio signal and a computationally efficient algorithm. Psychoacoustic criteria are used for optimal order selection and also for model parameter quantization. An average coding rate gain 6:1 can be achieved in this way without loss in signal quality. However, higher gains can be easily obtained by lowering quality in a controlled way.
