Geographic routing protocols forward the messages in the geographical direction of the destination. This may result in the repetitive selection of a particular node which is at the shortest distance from the destination, among the transmitter's neighbor nodes. Such frequently selected nodes will deplete their batteries at a faster rate. Few papers have addressed this issue and have taken energy in to account while selecting the next hop forwarder. This paper proposes an improved forwarder selection approach for energy aware geographic routing in three dimensional wireless sensor networks. It also compares and analyzes four solids of revolution as the forwarding volume to address the problem of void forwarding volume.
