Abstract

This paper deals with the one of the most prominent attacks on the wireless networks. Since more vulnerable attacks prevail on the wireless networks, the most deadly attack that could even result in financial crisis is the Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. The DoS attack consumes the bandwidth of the system which is being attacked and stops the services like HTTP, SMTP, FTP, etc. Hence the network under an attacked server cannot access the services provided by the server. Recent news on DoS attacks reveals that the security precautions taken to stop these attacks ended futile. This paper deals with the implementation of the Weighted Random Early Drop (WRED), a queuing algorithm used in Network Congestion Control together with the router's Access Control List (ACL) functionality to mitigate the DoS attacks.
