Abstract

Fractal image encoding is attractive due to its potential high compression ratio, fast decompression and multi-resolution properties. this paper try to present a new technique which improves fractal image compression through the use of quadtreetion scheme and novel local search with honey bee mating optimization to improve the compression ratio, encoding speed and reduce the storage space while the quality of retrieved image is preserved. Experimental results on standard grayscale images (256×256, 8bit) show that the proposed method yields superior performance over conventional fractal encoding.
