The fast deployment of constantly higher speed wireless connectivity for mobile users has lead to a situation where the development of electronics and the battery capacities have not been able to keep up. This has lead to a situation where the batteries of mobile devices run out very quickly when for example enjoying web content. We can enable longer battery life by lowering the QoE by moving to for example WAP services, but in order to keep the same experience, we need to optimize the amount of data transmitted over the wireless link. In this paper, we analyze the benefits of proxy services and compression to extend the lifetime of mobile wireless devices consuming WWW content.
