Abstract

Bit error rate (BER) and synchronization affect performance of a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system. In terms of these criteria, Markov codes are better than i.i.d. codes in asynchronous mode, for singleuser case. Their BER performance is better than i.i.d. codes in case of multiuser detection (MUD) also. However, we don't know if their synchronization performance in MUD is better than i.i.d. codes or not. This paper shows that by designing an efficient initial synchronization/code acquisition scheme, performance of Markov codes is superior in MUD systems.
