Abstract

This paper presents results of passwords authentication research. In this study different groups of end users were instructed to select a password by a different way. Afterwards, the security of selected passwords was examined and compared with their usability. Security value of a selected password is based on mathematical model and on a simulation of a dictionary attack and a brute force attack. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate that there a relation between two seemingly independent aspects of software quality - security and usability can exists.
