Abstract

Non-repudiation is currently legally supported by digital signatures. However, problems of digital signatures have been analysed in several papers, which consequently create doubts for their ability to support non-repudiation. The most significant issue, which has not been addressed, is the protection of the private key. If protection of the private key cannot be enforced or verified in any way, then non-repudiation cannot be addressed. The addressing of weaknesses of digital signatures through the use of biometrics has been considered.
