Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) is a promising technique for high data rate communications in the future cellular systems. Since frequency resources are universally reused in every cell of a system, users located near the cell-edge might experience severe inter-cell interferences (ICIs). To increase the performance of the system, soft frequency reuse (SFR) with an adaptive sub-carrier allocation algorithm considering user's quality of service (QoS) requirement has been proposed. However, an appropriate scheduling mechanism after satisfying users' minimum required throughput needs to be provided. In this paper, we propose an opportunistic sub-carrier allocation algorithm for SFR (OSFR) that meets the minimum required throughput of users and allocates the remaining sub-carriers to the candidate users who have the best channel conditions to enhance the overall network throughput. The performance of the proposed OSFR is investigated via simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed OSFR improves throughput as well as the outage performance.
